1. General information
G.W.F.Hegel in the Preface to his Principles of the Philosophy of Law, writes that "philosophy is its time apprehended in thoughts". This course aims to introduce the student to political philosophy by showing the ways in which the most relevant social and political events have been apprehended in thought throughout history (from ancient Greece to the Baroque). In line with the different currents and theoretical proposals, the main philosophies of Political Philosophy will be critically exposed.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030Agenda (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/),: Goal 4:, 5, 19, 11, 12, 13 and 16.
2. Learning results
The student, in order to pass this subject, must demonstrate the following results...
Knows the main political theories up to Spinoza as well as their historical-political contexts (competences 1 and 2).
Is able to make a critical and informed reflection on such theories (competences 2 and 3).
Knows the main philosophic themes of political philosophy (competency 1).
Is able to use knowledge of political philosophy to understand current events (competency 4).
Is able to politically evaluate human actions (competence 5).
Is able to understand and analyse the values of a democratic society (competence 6)
Has acquired the theoretical tools necessary to engage politically in ethical and political debates (competency 7).
Is able to write philosophical texts on political problems as well as to orally defend their own theoretical positions (competence 8)
Has acquired greater ability to participate in philosophical dialogues and debates (competency 9)
Is able to collect and interpret relevant data to form an adequate judgment in relation to the main problems of political philosophy (competency 10)

4. Academic activities
The program offered to the student to help them achieve the expected results comprises the following activities
- Theoretical classes.

5. Assessment system
FIRST CALL
a) Continuous assessment (if applicable).
- Assessment activity 1: Participation in the activities (20% of the grade).
- Assessment activity 2: Participation in the seminar (30% of the grade).
- Assessment activity 3: Academic work (50% of the grade) .
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
The following will be taken into account when assessing:
1. The acquired knowledge related to the subject.
2. The quality and quantity of the readings done to prepare for the subject.
3. Rigor, clarity and precision
b) Global assessment test (to be held on the date established in the academic calendar):
It will consist of an exercise, whose grade will be worth 100% of the grade, in which a topic will be developed in writing, or a text will be commented (also in writing). Both -topic or text- will be directly related to the contents taught in the subject . The minimum material the student needs to know to pass this test are the books or articles recommended as basic readings in the program.
